4/22/2003 I've been pretty busy lately with the house. Here is another photo of the kitchen area. I have all the wall cabinets hung now and I am working on getting the microwave/hood installed and the electrical outlets wired so that I can put in the base cabinets. :-)

4/9/2003 I got a few things done these past few days. I did a little more drywall work and put together the kitchen cabinets with the help of Dory on Monday. I am oh so close to priming and painting the walls in the kitchen area...and I'm just itching to get to it. I have a little more mudding to do and then I'll finally be ready. There are a lot of things that remain but somehow the walls being painted and finished seems like it will be a huge step.

I have been doing a lot of work in my garden lately, which is probably why the house is still unfinished...at least partly the reason anyway. Unfortunately, I will soon run out of room to do significant things in the garden. I have filled up much of the front yard and the front porch with plants that I find interesting...along with some really nice stones. I've planted a few things that will only last for this year but many of the things that I planted will be in place for years to come and I can imagine that I may become frustrated with the lack of space to continue my hobby. At that point I may be forced to do something else like finish the house...or maybe I'll get my shop together and start making furniture. Dory would love me to death if I made so much furniture that we ran out of places to put it. That probably won't happen.

4/3/2003 Well, once again it's been a while since I put anything new up here. Most of the problem seems to be that I haven't been taking any photos that I want to put up....and all this writing seems to be a little self indulgent sometimes.

That having been said I have a million things that have happened to me since I last wrote anything on the site. We're at war among other things. I was reading today about "depleted uranium" which the military uses for ammunition instead of lead or whatever metal they once used. Of course the military says that it is harmless; but there are all these people out there that say that all the Iraqis are going to die of cancer really soon. I guess I shouldn't spout off too much about politics...after all I'm not much of a "'blogger" with only a couple updates a month to my site.

I've been working on the house as usual. I finally removed the old kitchen sink so that I could start putting the finishing touches on the new bathroom. I have all the drywall hung and the first coat of mud on it at this point. The drywall that goes in bathrooms is called "greenboard"...I'm not really sure why. It is green, but the real functional difference is that the surface is more like a cloth than a piece of paper so that it will resist moisture better than regular drywall. I actually kinda like the color...maybe I'll be able to convince Dory to use paint of the same color.

Oh yeah, A couple weeks ago was the annual public show for my bonsai club. I took a bunch of photos but I am only going to put one up. My tree is the tiny one on the right...it's the same one from all the other photos. The one on the left is a beautiful redwood that belongs to my friend Tim Kong. He has some really fantastic trees...the photo of this tree doesn't really do it justice...it is about three feet tall...the bottom half is a crescent shape portion of what was once a much larger tree that had an unfortunate accident...the upper half grew out of the remainder of the original tree...I love it. The second photo is of the club's logo tree. It is a San Jose Juniper and has been in training for over 60 years. It is really neat and well done...but I like a lot of other trees more
