3/10/2003 Well, Dory is off galavanting around the country again without me. I'm stuck here working on the house...but I keep sneaking off to do bonsai stuff. It's really becoming an obsession. I was telling Dory on the phone that I got a couple of Boxwoods that I am going to make into bonsai...she asked me how many more trees I was going to get. All I could think to say was "lots."
As you can tell from the photos, the stair railing is in. I don't have a wide enough angle lense to get a better photo of it...but that one will give you the general idea. I hired a guy to put it in since I don't have the tools or the skill to do welding. It actually took them a while to do it. They fabricated it in a shop after taking some measurements...but then when they got here they had to redo a bunch of it since they hadn't measured very carefully. I'm pretty happy with it, except that it makes the stairs more narrow...I was thinking that I would paint it, but Dory has ideas about leaving it so you can see the natural color of the metal. I guess that would mean that I had to sand it and then apply some sort of sealer...maybe epoxy.
It's been downright hot here for the last couple days...the result of which is that all my bonsai are exploding with new growth. The photo of the yellowy leaves is the main branch of my Elm. You can see the little maple also in one of the photos. For some reason I just have to smile as I walk around looking at all the plants. They all seem so vibrant and healthy when the spring growth starts.
