2/18/2003 I have a ton of photos that I wanted to put up here and not too many words. So I'll have to bullshit for a while to fill the space. That first photo is of my maple. It's leafing out...of course it is just starting but you can see especially on the second branch from the top on the left that a leaf is emerging nicely...not too interesting to most people I guess. Also of little interest to all you uninterested-in-trees people is the tidbit that I planted one of my Japanese Black Pines in the ground today. It was in a one gallon pot and was looking quite rootbound, so I took it out, worked the rootball loose and straightened everything out before I planted it. I think I am a little late in doing it but we'll just see how it does.
I destroyed the deck that was on the back of our house yesterday. Three days ago after it had rained overnight I stepped out onto it in the morning and almost fell through. The joist that was supporting the floorboards collapsed and it was only the piece of plywood that saved the whole thing from breaking apart. I had to go to work but I thought to myself that I could no longer ignore it hoping that it would last until I was ready to build the new deck. On Tuesday, I took my sledge hammer and started whacking at it. On the first swing I swung back to wind up and broke one of my terra cota pots that I had moved off the deck...grr. On the second swing I removed one of he posts. It took me only ten minutes to demolish the whole thing. It took me a couple hours to load everything into the truck along with some extra garbage for a run to the city dump. I salvaged enough wood to rebuild a platform so that I can still use the existing stairs. While there was no platform, there was a little jump from the doorway to the top of the not-too-stable stairway. I had no problem with it but Romi didn't like it too much. I tossed him over it a few times before he really started avoiding me whenever the door was open. He actually managed to jump it a couple times by himself, once I was right behind him and I am pretty sure that he would've fallen if I hadn't caught his butt as he was sliding backwards.
I have spent the majority of the last couple days trying to get drywall put up so that I can finally start mudding everything. There isn't too far to go before I can acutally start painting! But Romi hasn't really made things easy...I think that I spend almost as much time trying to keep him out of the way as I do actually working. The photo is of him "helping" me, he has my tape measure in his mouth.
The house is an absolute mess. I keep cleaning, but the dust from the drywall router and the plaster that I have had to remove to square things up has gotten on everything. I was sitting in the main room after it got dark, everything is cloudy looking...oh well.
Just ignore the photo of me...unless you are someone who would like it...
