4/15/2005 I have a lot of fun doing my complaining on this website, but I should stop my ranting for a moment here and just say Thank You to all the people who have been so generous to Dory, Bryce and I. Starting even before the baby shower and ever since we have received more gifts than I can count. I think that Dory and I haven't bought a single item of baby clothing because there was so much given to us. So thank you to parents, relatives, coworkers and friends for being so kind...now on with the ranting...
My brother Brian was evicted from the apartment that he moved into a few months ago; so that, combined with some other factors, has led to him moving back into our house. He lived with us for about six months previously, helping with my summer projects and watching probably every A's game last year. This morning I started getting ready for his arrival by cleaning out the office. I'm going to get rid of the huge old desk that is in there and put a small one up in my bedroom, get a laptop, and hopefully never have to use the desk. I went to look at a desk that I found on Craigslist but the top of it was in bad condition and it was bigger than it had looked in the photo I saw. I boxed up all the old magazines that were filling a six-foot shelf in the office, throwing some of them away and putting others into the attic...which is getting more and more full by the month.
By far the hardest part has been cleaning out the closet underneath the stairs. I had trown box after box of stuff back there and then when it started to get full I would shove everything farther back and throw more boxes in. After a couple hours work all those boxes are now either discarded or in the attic...I don't know why I dont toss all of them since I probably wont look at them again until we move out of our house (which is no time soon.)
I had a bonsai meeting last night. It was the first one since Bryce was born, and it was tough to leave the house...not because I didn't want to go, but because I know how much work needs to be done to take care of Bryce and I know that Dory is currently doing almost all of it. Still, the meeting was fun; Tim Kong gave me a tiny Boxwood planted in a ceramic set of baby shoes (I guess that's Bryce's first bonsai.) Our presentor for the evening was John Boyce who is one of the founders of the club and a long time member. He did a talk on what bonsai means to him and styled an Elm tree for the raffle. I've been trying to think of a way to give Dory the same freedom to occasionally leave the house, but since all advice says no bottles for at least the first six weeks she is stuck for at least a few more weeks.
