2/22/2006 Tonight I have my first ceramics class at the JCC. I have already made a dozen or more pots over at my friend Ron's house so I am primed and ready to get cracking. I don't know what clays etc they will have on hand, but I suppose that it doesn't really matter, I can make bonsai pots for one purpose or another out of anything. I haven't been so excited about getting my hands dirty making things since I first started remodeling the house. Ceramics is a great way for me to get more instant gratification out of my bonsai endeavours and be productive at the same time.

Bryce has been keeping me busy. After he slimed my cell phone a few months ago I have been limping along, with a phone that turns itself off all the time and can't hold a charge on the battery. It finally got so bad the other day that I had to break down and go get a new phone. I checked the store hours and location before I went, but when I arrived I was infuriated to find that their "techs" were having a training day. I stomped out of the store and returned this morning. I realized that I should have just bought a new phone yesterday because my phone is out of warranty and it costs $50 to have it fixed. The new phone ended up being about $150, but I'm guaranteed no more problems for a while...well I suppose nothing is guaranteed in life. As I am typing this Bryce is in the kitchen moving a chair back an forth over the tile and playing with his pacifier. He isn't walking by himself yet, but he pushes things around and gets into all kinds of trouble. I gave him my now old cell phone to play with, which he really likes since it lights up when you press the buttons.

I haven't had too much free time lately because of work. Sometimes it seems like it's more than part time and since Bryce is my fulltime job I seemingly have two jobs. Luckily, when we go to Ron's house to do ceramics he takes long naps. Ron also loves to play with Bryce which means I get a few hours a couple times a week away from e-mail and from taking care of Bryce. Dory's been so busy lately that even in the evening she often can't take care of him...she's always getting calls from people at work and having to do e-mail.

Dory did have enough free time to let me go hiking on President's day; I went up to the north side of Mount Tamilpais. It's a nice area, a good mix of coastal climate and inland vegetation. Since it is early spring here I was treated to a small showing of wildflowers. I found one that I thought at first to be an orchid, but I am thinking now that it was a trillium. I've taken a bit more of an interest in wildflowers of late since they make great little accent plants for bonsai. I plan to try to do some hiking/collecting up near my parents' house if I can find the time. I'll have plenty of interesting little pots to put things in before long, so I better get collecting.
